Victoria from the Doorways & Dresses blog is our local guide for this week. When she’s not sunning herself on the best rooftop terraces in Leeds, you might find her reviewing the latest beauty trend, travelling to an exotic destination or planning her upcoming wedding. We just moved to York, which is only 30 minutes from Leeds, so we’re excited to hear what she has to say!
1. So, you live in Leeds. Why do you love it so much?
I have lived in Leeds for the past 4 years now and I honestly don’t think I could live anywhere else in the UK. It has everything there is to offer from beautiful parks, amazing nightlife, great shops and unique buildings. I love the city’s European feel and you’re never stuck on things to do, as there is always something happening in Leeds.
2. Roundhay is your favourite neighbourhood. Why is that?
Roundhay is my favourite neighbourhood as it has one of the most beautiful parks I have seen in the UK so far. It’s huge, you can certainly have a fun day exploring the park and take a picnic, so you can just take in all the scenery. Opposite the park, there are tennis courts where you can have a game of tennis, and it’s free.
3. Where do all the cool kids hang out in Leeds?
I’m not sure if I am a cool kid, but in the summertime, Headrow House is the place where you can find me. It’s a bar located in the city centre and has 3 floors including a rooftop terrace (which is where I am most of the time). It’s the one place I feel like I’m on holiday and is such a sun trap.
4. Where could we buy the cheapest food and drinks in Leeds?
On Thursday’s at the Water Lane Boat House in the city centre you can get 2 pizzas and a bottle of prosecco for just £20.00. There are always offers in the city, I would advise you to head on over to the Pink Gorilla website as they have amazing deals for luxury restaurants and bars.
5. What is the best thing to do when it’s raining in Leeds?
We have a beautiful indoor market and beautiful shops from high street stores within the Trinity shopping centre and on Briggate Street, to designer wear at the Victoria Gate and Victoria Quarter. We also have the Everyman cinema in the Trinity Centre, which I highly recommend.
6. Are there any unusual attractions/activities you recommend?
Just like many cities, Leeds is very popular for stag and hen parties as we have a great nightlife. So if you are getting married soon and you’re thinking on where to go for your pre-party, then head to Leeds. You will honestly love it! We have incredible theatres here in Leeds, Grand Theatre, West Yorkshire playhouse, the Arena and we also have the Northern Ballet school and Opera North. It is always worthwhile booking a play.
7. Where can we learn more about you?
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions Victoria! We will definitely check out the Pink Gorilla website – what a great hack!
